Ethel Pier, age 99, of Dickinson, ND, formerly of Huron, SD, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson, ND. Her funeral service will be 9:30 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron, SD with burial at St. Martin Cemetery in Huron. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 24, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with a scripture service to begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday night; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the Church on Saturday. Ethel K. (Bieger) Pier was born on September 8, 1913 to J.W. (Jack) and Rose (Dougherty) Bieger on a peony farm northeast of Huron, SD. She attended grade school in Beadle County at Sheffield, SD and Huron High School. Ethel received her diploma later in life from a correspondence school in Chicago, IL. She married Edward Pier on September 28, 1934 in Madison, SD, to this union two sons were born, Dwayne and Bruce. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, playing bingo and bridge, and watch baseball especially the Twins. She belonged to three social clubs and an extension club. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Ethel is survived by her son Bruce (Lucille) Pier; five grandchildren: David (Lara) Pier, Allen (Dennise) Pier, Lezlie (Kory) Linster, Robbyn (Brad) Hanstad, Tom (Erin) Pier; ten great grandchildren. Ethel is also survived by six step-grandchildren and seventeen step-great grandchildren. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; her son, Dwayne; two great grandchildren, Josh and Teri; two brothers, Alva and Raymond; two sisters, Hazel and Blanche; and two daughters-in-law, Marie and Carol.
