Ethan Marquardt, age 35, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at his home under hospice care after a 3-and-a-half-year battle with an oligodendroglioma, surrounded by his loving family. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Huron Christian Church in Huron, SD. Visitation, with his family present, will be from 5-7 p.m., on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at Huron Christian Church. A prayer service and time of sharing will begin at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday evening at the church. 

Ethan Emmanuel Marquardt was born August 27th, 1990 in Rochester, MN to Michael and LoriAnne Marquardt (Putman).

As a child, Ethan and his brothers, spent a lot of time outdoors and getting into mischief. From swimming in rivers that were supposed to be off limits to accidently starting a lawn on fire which resulted in serious burns on his leg. He was a talented athlete. He would tell you he was a swimmer and received medals and awards in high school sports, but he excelled at running. His middle school swim coach encouraged him to go out from track. When his mom enlisted in the military and was deployed, he lived for a time with his maternal grandparents and his senior year with his high school track coach. He had a passion for running and at least on one occasion he ran several extra miles through the woods and unknowingly into the next county, trying to find his way back before dark in the mid-winter, when he stumbled upon a gas station for directions and a police officer asking if he was Ethan, because they had been looking for him.

Through his track and cross-country achievements, he received a scholarship to attend USD in Vermillion, SD. Where he excelled in long distance, steeple chase, 4x4 and relay. As well as cross-country, traveling across the US with his Coyote teammates. Through many prayers on his behalf, by his coaches through the years, who saw potential in Ethan, God brought a loving and caring woman into his life. During his 4th year at USD, he met and began dating Lauren Carver. She brought him home and his quirky sense of humor endeared him to her family and he embraced the love of family and faith that he had witnessed in their lives. He was baptized into Christ in 2014 and became an active member at Huron Christian Church. They were married June 6th, 2015 in Huron. To this union, 3 children were born; Oliver Emrys, Eevee Cora, and Nora Cadence.

He still managed to use his athletic abilities, playing on various softball teams and for a time became an avid disc golf player and was instrumental in helping make improvements to the Memorial Park Disc Golf Park in Huron alongside his father-in-law. Together they put many miles on traveling to play different courses across the state, several tournaments and were advocates to grow the sport.

He also challenged his athlete abilities by perusing Triathlons. With his competitive nature, went on to excel in a sport he was passionate for. Even becoming the Tri Series Champion two years in a row in the state of South Dakota.

During his time in Huron, Ethan was employed at Our Home Inc, Casey’s Gas Station, Hubbard Feeds and Terex Manufacturing. Ethan and Lauren also took part in a Young Adult Sunday School and small group at Huron Christian Church. Ethan always knew how to make people laugh. Especially at the most questionable times, making newcomers trauma-bonded to any group with his blunt sense of humor. There are some people that aren’t afraid to say what everyone else was thinking, but Ethan was not afraid to say what no one else was thinking.

In early January 2023 Ethan showed symptoms of something happening beyond his control. Thus, beginning his 3-and-a-half-year journey with an aggressive brain tumor. He underwent surgery, radiation, chemo and battled seizures as one of his main symptoms indicating that something was not right. There were several ups and downs as the tumor shrunk in response to medications but continued to come back again and again. In June of 2026 the tumor became medication resistant, resulting in Ethan being placed on Hospice at home.

Ethan passed away in his home on August 12, 2026. He leaves behind his loving wife Lauren and children Oliver (9), Eevee (6) and Nora (4). Other survivors include: In-Laws Paul and Jackie Carver of Huron; parents: LoriAnne Marquardt of Mankato, Michael (Susan) Marquardt of Black River Falls; grandparents Ronald and Carol Marquardt of Dodge Center; brothers: Jon (Dana) Marquardt of New Ulm, Jeff (Laura) of Zumbrota, Charles Marquardt of Huron; sister-in-law Dani (Chad) Keene of Omaha; brother-in-law Tyler (Laura) of Rapid City; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an unborn child in 2016 and his grandparents Alvin and Janice Putman (Majerus).
