Obituary

Esther E. Krutzfeldt, age 92, of Huron, SD, died on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.

Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Virgil United Methodist Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron, SD.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday July 13, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Esther Elizabeth Bischoff, the daughter of Henry and Caroline (Urban) Bischoff, was born on June 7, 1918, in Huron, SD. She attended school in Fairfield Township, Broadland, and Huron, but did not graduate because she was needed at home.

Esther married Gilbert Krutzfeldt on December 4, 1938, in Huron, SD. The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Huron where they farmed for 56 years. Her specialty was raising chickens and garden produce. Esther moved to an apartment in Huron after the death of her husband in 1994. She moved to SunQuest Healthcare Center in 2006.

Esther was a member of the Virgil United Methodist Church and a very active member of United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Beadle County Extension Homemakers for over 50 years at the local, district, and state level. Esther was named South Dakota Eminent Homemaker in 1994. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, gardening, and volunteering.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her son, Robert (Cheryl) Krutzfeldt of Huron, SD; her daughter, Lois Wood also of Huron, SD; 4 grandchildren: Emily (Mike) Sovell of Watertown, Linda (Tim) Gogolin of Savage, MN, Tammy (Al) Venenga of Grundy Center, IA, and Jeff Wood of Victoria, MN; 10 great grandchildren: Christopher (Michelle) Heasley, Cody (Samantha Smith) Heasley, Amanda (Cody Winkowitsch) Heasley, Zachary Wood, Abby Gogolin, Chloe Gogolin, Savannah Sovell, Benjamin Venenga, Mary Venenga, Will Venenga, and Stephanie Venenga; sister-in-law, Emma Kotas, and several nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilbert in 1994; 4 brothers: Ralph, Lloyd, Everett, and Earl Bischoff; sister, Ruby Glazier; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
