Esther Halbur, age 86, of Huron, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 25, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation, with her family present will be from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, September 24, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Esther Louise Schroeder was born on December 20, 1932 in Huron to parents John and Margaret (Harmdierks) Schroeder. She attended school in Huron, graduating from Huron High School in 1950.

Esther married Alvin Halbur on June 7, 1953 in Huron. The family made their home on the family farm south of Huron. Esther worked at Pamida and as a bus driver for the Huron School District.

She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and LWML. Esther enjoyed quilting with the church quilters guild. Baking and sewing were favorite pastimes for Esther. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband. Her little slice of Heaven on Earth was sitting on the back deck of the farm house enjoying nature.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in 2016; her parents; a daughter in infancy; two brothers, Herman and Raymond; sister, Marie Berquist; sister-in-law, Doris; and daughter-in-law, Jamie.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Tony Halbur of Huron, Linda (Marchia Hagberg) Stevens of Las Vegas, NV, and John Halbur of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, James Halbur, Kaitlin Halbur, Lowell (Elizabeth) Stevens, and Tracie Aasen; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
