Obituary

Esther M. Borkowski, age 84, of Huron, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Avantara Huron in Huron, South Dakota. Her funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday, November 12, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Kevin Koester and Rev. Chris Navurskis officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Welter Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 6:00 pm.

Esther Mae Borkowski (Miller) was born on March 28, 1936, to Morris and Eva (Keats) Miller at the Madsen Farm, Badger, SD. She started high school in Lake Preston, SD and completed her high school education at the South Dakota School of Agriculture in Brookings, SD and graduated in 1954.

Esther met her husband to be on the first day of her senior year at SDSA when he came and sat on her desktop. She married Harold Borkowski September 4, 1954 in Wessington Springs, SD.

Esther was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. She had a home day care and because of her love of teaching, she became a teacher's aide at several grade schools in Huron, SD. She also spent her summers working at the Dakotaland Museum. When not at the school or the church, she would spend hours crocheting, doing needlepoint, and reading. She also enjoyed attending tractor and antique shows with Harold.

She is survived by her 4 sons, Tommy (Cindy) Borkowski of Huron, Ralph (Kim) Borkowski of Huron, Jim (Kaelene) Borkowski of Huron, and Paul (Marivic) Borkowski of Moyock, NC; 6 grandchildren, Jenni, Mandi, Darci, Drew, Kira, and Janie; 11 great grandchildren, Lincoln, Mayli, Remzi, Eli, Ava, Paeson, Claire, Brogan, Daniel, Jack, and Liliana. 1 sister, Lorraine Smith of Phoenix, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Borkowski; her parents; 1 sister Doris Leiding; 3 brothers Kenneth Miller, Eugene Miller, and Wayne Miller.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Church Board of Evangelism.
