Obituary

Ervin Puterbaugh, age 87, of rural Cavour, SD, died Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at the Firesteel Health Care Center at Mitchell. His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Friday, August 11, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Iroquois, with Rev. Kathy Hibbert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call this Thursday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Friday morning. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM this Thursday evening at the funeral home with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Ervin Gustav John Puterbaugh was born on February 18, 1919, to Henry and Wallie Lydia (Verch) Puterbaugh rural Cavour, SD. He attended Alley Country School in Pearl Creek Township. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran church, rural Cavour. On November 1, 1939, Ervin married Viola Hein at Huron. They lived and farmed near Cavour for over 66 years, retiring in 1978. Both Ervin and Viola drove school bus for 19 years. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was the financial secretary and sang in the choir. He greatly enjoyed attending his family activities, traveling, camping, and making crafts. He is survived by his wife, Viola, the love of his life for 66 years; 3 sons, Allan (Jean) Puterbaugh of Ruthven, IA, Gerald (Ann) Puterbaugh of Cavour, and Perry (Betty) Puterbaugh of Huron; 1 daughter, Deanna (Tom) Moeding of Cavour; 12 grandchildren, Kris (Steve) OBrien, Kathi (Mike) Mueller, Geralynn (Lance) Fjeldheim, Mark (Gena) Puterbaugh, Beth (Mike) Slowey, Daphne (Eddie) Moeller, Chad (Tracy) Puterbaugh, Kari Hoeft, Kim (Stan) Herrmann, Gerad (Ranae) Puterbaugh, David Moeding, and Tricia (Don) Semple; and 16 great grandchildren, Gage Puterbaugh, Riley Puterbaugh, Maggie OBrien, Connor OBrien, Carsten Mueller, Tate Mueller, Roger Puterbaugh, Henry Puterbaugh, Britney Moeller, Jessica Slowey, Nathan Slowey, Thomas Semple, Minatharin Hoeft, Karissa Fjeldheim, Kiana Fjeldheim, and Kameron Fjeldheim. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 grandson, Anthony Ervin Puterbaugh; and 1 great grandson, Kyler James Fjeldheim.
