Ervin Diegel, age 80, of Wolsey, South Dakota, died on July 25, 2010, at his home in Wolsey. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church of Wolsey with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron, SD. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday July 27, at the Welter Funeral home in Huron. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home Tuesday night, with a prayer service to begin at 7:30 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Ervin Diegel, the son of Jacob and Lydia (Schauer) Diegel, was born on June 4, 1930, in Roscoe, SD. He grew up and attended school in Roscoe. In his younger years, Ervin worked at various farms in the Orient area. Ervin married Marlys Parkhurst on August 8, 1959, in Iroquois, SD. Ervin worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and at various other jobs until moving to Wolsey in 1967, where he resided until his death. Ervin also worked at Larson Cabs and then as a mechanic for Petroleum Carriers until his retirement in 1992. Ervin was a member of the Wolsey Senior Citizen Center. He enjoyed working on cars, watching NASCAR races, attending car races in Huron and Miller, and traveling and camping. His 1941 Farmall Tractor was his most treasured possession. Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Marlys of Wolsey, SD; his son, Rick (Paula) Diegel of Edgeley, ND; 3 grandchildren: Brittany, Beau, and Trey Diegel, all of Edgeley, ND; 5 sisters: Leota Bruckner of Huron, SD, Eileen (Bob) Owens, of Ipswich, SD, Virginia (Niles) Smith of Minnetonka, MN, Verna Hoover, of Long Lake, MN, and Bernice (Robert) Weber, of Saint Michael, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 sisters, Lucille Diegel and Ruth Leidholt.
