Ervin Beyer, age 80, of 1588 Beach Ave. SE, Huron, SD, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 29, at Riverview United Methodist Church with burial at Altoona Cemetery, rural Hitchcock, and Military Rites by the Raymond-Hart American Legion Post #84 of Hitchcock.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ervin Richard Beyer, son of Gustaf and Meta (Jungemann) Beyer, was born on March 7, 1929, in Wolsey, SD. He attended rural school near his home.
On July 15, 1951, Ervin was united in marriage to Wanda Jansen. To this union 3 children were born: David, Eva, and Jewel.
On May 29, 1961, Ervin married Lola Poe in Montevideo, MN. To this union 2 children were born: Charleen and Gary.
On April 23, 1951- Ervin entered the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on April 8, 1953. During his working life, he farmed, worked for the Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation, Able Co., and many years for South Dakota Wheat Growers, Cenex, and James Valley Co-op. He retired in 1991. Ervin and Lola lived many years in Hitchcock, moving to Huron in 2001.
He was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wolsey. At the time of his death, he was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church in Huron and the Raymond-Hart American Legion Post #84 in Hitchcock. His pastimes included woodworking, hunting, playing the harmonica, and spending treasured time with his children, grandchildren, and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Lola of Huron; his 5 children, David Beyer of Milwaukee, WI; Eva (Ron) Wipf of Huron; Jewel (Reg) Tschetter of Huron; Charleen (Jeff) Oligmueller of Swisher, IA; and Gary (Leslie) Beyer of Braystones, England; 10 grandchildren, Michelle (Aaron) Gilbert of Hitchcock; Melanie Wipf of Tashkent, Uzbekistan; Megan (David) Moeding of Sioux Falls; Jordan Wipf of Huron; Jason (Tracy) Tschetter of Sioux Falls; Amy Tschetter of Seattle, WA; Robin Oligmueller of Swisher, IA; Phillip Oligmueller of Swisher, IA; Brandon Beyer of Braystones, England; and Austin Beyer of Braystones, England; 7 great grandchildren, Logan Gilbert, Zachary Gilbert, Isabel Gilbert, and Max Gilbert all of Hitchcock; and Hannah Tschetter, Jackson Tschetter, and Ella Tschetter all of Sioux Falls; a sister, Margaret (Beyer) Stegeman of Wolsey; a sister-in-law, Marie Knudson of Huron; their special dog, Missy; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Reinhardt Beyer; brother-in-law, Gerhardt Stegeman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Loren Pete and Lois (French) Poe; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois (Poe) and Wendell Puffer.
