Erma Marjorie Phillips was born on July 8, 1928, in rural St. Lawrence, South Dakota on the family farm. She was one of 16 children born to Claude and Bertha (Marshall) Phillips. Erma attended Lone Tree rural school for eight years and then St. Lawrence High School for two years before needing to return home to help on the farm.
Erma married Leroy Moser on December 14, 1945, in Wessington, South Dakota. Erma and Leroy made their home in Wolsey where she raised her family and was a devoted farmwife. Erma started working at the Wolsey School District in 1966 in the kitchen, a job she loved, retiring in 1997. Leroy passed away in 1992. Erma later found companionship with Victor Woodruff. They married in Wolsey on March 26, 1994. Erma and Victor had many happy years together until his passing in 2015.
Erma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wolsey, Presbyterian Women, and Wolsey Card Club. Erma loved spending time with her family, hardly missing any activity of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. If she couldn't attend, she loved getting updates from her family. She will be remembered as a great baker-decorating many cakes for birthdays and making Christmas candies with family. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing cards. Erma loved to dance and was a member of different dancing clubs.
She is survived by her children, Sheila (Loren) Boyens of Sioux Falls, Peggy (James) Wagner of Cottonwood, AZ, Leon (Marilyn) Moser of Wolsey, and David (Barbara) Moser of Huron; 8 grandchildren, Scott (Beth) Boyens, Mark (Stephanie) Boyens, Craig (Rachel) Boyens, Curtis (special friend Tessa Fennimore) Wagner, Matthew (fiancé Tara Viktora) Moser, Lance (Callie Jo) Moser, Tammy (Jeff) Gilbert, and Kristina (Joel) Vetter; 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; one brother Donald (Karen) Phillips of OR, sisters Laura Stoudt of WA and Mona Brock of OR; and many nieces and nephews.
