Elvira "VaVi" Aamodt, age 97, of Lake Norden and formerly of Huron died Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Lake Norden. Her funeral service will be 10:30 am Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 pm Monday, September 7, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron; or one hour prior to the service at the church. Elvira Marguerite Olson was born to Oscar and Thora (Johanson) Olson on December 15, 1917 in Westby, ND. She grew up in Crosby, ND, where she graduated from high school. After a few years of college, she returned to Crosby and worked in the Courthouse. It was there that she met her future husband, Rev. Conrad Aamodt, who completed his internship in Crosby. VaVi married Conrad on June 8, 1947, at Concordia Lutheran Church at Crosby, ND. They served as missionaries to Japan for 15 years and then accepted a call in 1968 to the New Effington- Claire City, SD Parish. In 1976 they moved to Huron where Pastor Aamodt served his last parish, Our Savior's Lutheran. Huron is where they would spend their retirement years. VaVi kept active by teaching English to refugees along with helping them adjust to a new country, and visiting shut-ins in the community. She is survived by her three sons, Joel Aamodt of Huron, Kim (Linda) Aamodt of Clark, Dean (Melanie) Aamodt of Pelican Rapids, MN; three grandchildren, Brienne Aamodt of San Francisco, Jordan (Jacqueline) Aamodt of Tallahassee, Nelson Aamodt of Fargo, ND; one great grandchild, Maverick Aamodt of Tallahassee; several nieces and nephews. VaVi was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Conrad in 1999; and five siblings.
