Obituary

Elton Anson, age 79, of rural Wessington, SD, died Thursday, January 11, 2007, at the Hendricks Community Hospital at Hendricks, MN. His funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Monday, January 15, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Sager officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, rural Wessington. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening and Monday morning until time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Sunday evening followed by a Masonic Service at the Welter Funeral Home. Elton Anson was born on January 19, 1927, to Charles and Myrtle (Ely) Anson near Wolsey, SD. After completion of his formal education at rural schools he remained and worked on the family farm. On February 2, 1951, Elton married Mary McInnis at Pipestone, MN. The couple made their home in rural Wessington where they owned and operated a ranch. From 1950-1952, Elton was a member of the South Dakota National Guard. During this time he was activated into the U.S. Army (during the Korean War) and was stationed in Alaska as Sergeant 1st Class with Company K of the 196th Regimental Combat Team. After his honorable discharge he returned to the family ranch near Wessington. He was a member of the Watson-Krauter American Legion Post #110 of Wessington; the Wessington/Wolsey Masonic Lodge #107 AF & AM; Farm Bureau; Farmers Union; former director of the South Dakota Stock Growers Association; R-Calf National Organization; past president of the Sunshine Bible Academy Parent-Teachers Fellowship; past president of the 196th Regimental Combat Team Association; and a 40+ year family camper at the South Dakota State Fair. He also owned and operated a concession stand at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds for over 30 years. Elton enjoyed taking trips in the car, but above all, he cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary of rural Wessington; 4 children, Dr. Mary Anson of Brighton, IA, Alex George (Amy) Anson of Wessington Springs, Elton R. (Lisa) Anson of Hettinger, ND, and Roberta Bobbi (Mark) Anson-King of Canby, MN; 7 grandchildren, Tyler Anson, Torrey Anson, Treyton Anson, Collin Anson, Garett Anson, Matt Anson, and Alisha Anson; 1 daughter-in-law, Cindy Anson of Wessington Springs; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 1 son, Angus Anson.
