Elnora Osburn, age 90, of Whittier, CA, formerly of Wessington, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2016, at the PIH Community Hospital in Whittier, CA.
Her burial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Wessington Cemetery.
Elnora H. Thompson, the daughter of Frank and Amy (Johnson) Thompson, was born on February 25, 1926 in Wessington, SD. She attended Thompson Grammar School in a one-room country school house which was built by her grandfather and graduated from Huron High School in 1944. After high school, Elnora attended Whittier College in California and graduated with a Teaching Degree in Elementary Education.
Elnora married Bill Osburn on June 11, 1947 in Whittier, CA.
Elnora taught elementary school for the East Whittier School District for 34 years before retiring. Elnora attended the Whittier Area Baptist Fellowship. She enjoyed reading poetry, gardening, making quilts, and cross stitching. She was also a great cook. Elnora and Bill spent many good times at their home on the Colorado River where they enjoyed watersports, and fishing in the High Sierras with friends.
Grateful for having shared in Elnora's life are her husband of 69 years, Bill Osburn of Whittier CA; brother-in-law, Phillip (Christine) Osburn and his family, Tracy Cooper, Patrick Osburn and David Edmonston; and three nephews: Bruce Wiede of Montana, Brent Wiede of Oregon, and David Miller of California.
Elnora was preceded in death by her parents, Amy and Frank Johnson; and two sisters, Mildred Miller and Myrna Wiede.
