Obituary

Ellen (LeGrand) Lanseidel, age 95, of 1495 Kansas Ave SE, Huron died Thursday, August 12, 2004 at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday, August 16th at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Altoona Cemetery, rural Hitchcock. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening or Monday until the time of service at the funeral home. Ellen Sophronia Marshall was born on May 19, 1909, to Herbert and Mary (Payne) Marshall at Hitchcock. She attended Payne Grade School, rural Hitchcock and Hitchcock High School. On October 17, 1925, Ellen married Michael LeGrand in Huron. They lived on farms in the rural Hitchcock area. Michael LeGrand died in 1970. She moved to Huron in the 70s where she has lived since that time. She married John Lanseidel in 1990. She was a member of the Hitchcock Methodist Church from 1923 until 1991 and then transferred her membership to the Bethesda Church in Huron. She was a Pink Lady at the Huron Regional Medical Center for many years. For 13 years she took care of children one afternoon each week for the Huron Methodist Church Mothers Day Out Program. She was a member of the Sunshine Club for 40 years beginning in 1933 and the Rhythm Ramblers. She enjoyed listening to music, playing the organ and reading her bible. At the age of 78 she competed in the Sioux Falls Regional Senior Olympics and the South Dakota Senior Olympics in Pierre winning 4 blue ribbons and 2 red ribbons. She is survived by her three daughters, Fran (Dick) Puffer of Hitchcock, Millie (Bill) Adams of Summerville, SC, and Betty (Wendell) Ames of Brandon; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 3 great-great granddaughters; three sisters, Reva Maher of Pierre, Marie Malone of Huron, and Lenore Schamp of Sioux Falls; three brothers, Lester of Tulare, Lyle of Huron and Glen of Hitchcock. She was preceded in death by her two husbands Michael and John, her parents, three sisters, Vera Woodard, Norma Maher, and Jessie Houck; and four brothers, Lawrence, Carl, Keith and Clyde Marshall. The family would like to thank the staff of E-Wing at the Huron Nursing Home for their TLC.
