Ellen Jane Heitman, age 84, of Huron, formerly of De Smet, SD, passed away on Thursday January 10, 2013, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron, SD. Her funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at the De Smet Cemetery in De Smet, SD. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Ellen Jane Heitmann, the daughter of Henry Otto and Neva Mae (Terguson) Heitmann, was born on March 2, 1928, in Iroquois, SD. Ellen attended schools and graduated from the De Smet High School in 1948. Ellen worked as a cook in the Dietary Department of the De Smet Hospital for many years. Ellen enjoyed crocheting doll dresses, rugs, and blankets. She loved bears and butterflies, and her two mules from her childhood, Jack and Jenny. Ellen loved Jehovah and enjoyed doing door to door ministry for her church. Grateful for having shared in Ellen's life are her two sisters, Arlene and Bob Swanson of Lincoln, NE and Alice Wynn of Hastings, NE; two nieces, Nancy and Terry Wynn; and two nephews, Micheal and Joe Wynn. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; and her grandmother, Ruby Ferguson.
