Ellen M. Gascoigne, age 83, of 375 Dakota Ave South, Huron, died Thursday, December 29, 2005 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Monday, January 2, 2006 at the Huron Christian Church with Pastor Alan Wager officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening and Monday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday afternoon. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Ellen Gascoigne was born Ellen M. Estervig on February 13, 1922, to Ole and Florence (Classick) Estervig at Hurley, SD. She has always been a special star and was named the 1922 Turner County Most Beautiful Baby. She graduated from Hurley High School and attended Springfield College. She taught school near Davis, SD. During World War II Ellen worked as a ship welder for the war effort in San Francisco, CA. In 1942, Ellen married Wilbur Dean. She moved to Huron in the early 1950s. In 1955, Ellen married George Porky Gascoigne. In 1964, they moved to Oxnard, California and in 1973 they moved back to Huron where they operated the Yellow Top Cab until 1983. She was a member of Huron Christian Church, and Huron Senior Citizens Center Bible Study. Her hobbies include crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, volunteer for various club activities and visiting with numerous friends. She is survived by her children, Larry Dean of Huron, Judy (Larry) Williams of Oroville, CA, Linda Scheinert of Huron, Jerry Gascoigne of Tulsa, OK, Susan (Jim Schmidt) Neitzert of Aurora, CO, Steve Gascoigne of Rapid City, SD, and Leland (Brenda) Dean of Huron; 9 grandchildren; and many great and great great grandchildren. Also grateful for sharing her life are Sherry Hall, Lois Gascoigne, Steve Neitzert and Jennifer Dilley. She was preceded in death by her husband George Porky Gascoigne on December 25, 1991, her parents, a son-in-law, Dale Scheinert, and a sister Arlis Eilers. Casket bearers will be James Gascoigne, Greg Neitzert, Jason Neitzert, Ernst Scheinert, Tyler Dean and Chris Murphree.
