Obituary

Elizabeth Lib Tapken, age 57, of 705 Parkside Drive, Huron, SD, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial at Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home and from 6-8 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.; or Monday morning one hour prior to the service at the church.

Elizabeth Tapken was born Elizabeth Ann Farley on September 17, 1951, to John and Mary (Balder) Farley in Pierre, SD. She moved with her family to Huron where she attended school and graduated from Huron High School 1969; then attended and graduated from St. Johns School of Nursing in Huron in 1973 with a degree as a Registered Nurse. She worked as an RN in Colorado and Iowa for the next 6 years.

Lib returned to Huron in 1979 and began working as an RN at the Huron Regional Medical Center. She was recently recognized by the hospital for her 30-year career with HRMC and was honored as Employee of the Month for April 2009.

She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Her family was her pride and joy, especially the grandchildren. Her many interests included gardening, sewing, Allstars Hockey, and traveling to Alaska.

She is survived by her husband, Jim of Huron; 4 children, Jonathan (Amanda) Lotton of Eagle River, Alaska, Eric (Ann) Price of Miller, SD, Allison (Jason) Joel of Haines, Alaska, and John (Whitney) Tapken of Huron, SD; 11 grandchildren, Skye Dorn, Dylan Dorn, Reagen Joel, Elizabeth Joel, Makenzie Tapken, Isaac Lotton, Jacob Lotton, Elijah Lotton, Louis Lotton, Cougar Lotton, and Tristan Lotton; 1 sister, Mary Sue Haskett of Glenhaven CO; 2 brothers, John Farley of Gold Canyon, AZ, and Tom Farley of Spearfish, SD; her father-in-law, George Jim Tapken of Alpena, SD; 3 sisters-in-law, Janice (Paul) Ford of Huron, SD, Julie (Bernie) Linn of Pierre, SD, and Jackie (Dan) Bolster of Drummond, MT.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 sister, Carol Farley; her step father, John Lundberg; her stepmother-in-law, Mary Lu Tapken; and her mother-in-law, Jean Tapken;.
