Eleanor Jelgerhuis, age 96, of 240 Colorado Ave. SW, Huron, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 6, at the First United Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. Richard Rinearson officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church chapel Tuesday morning. The family will be present Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund. Eleanor Jelgerhuis was born Eleanor Stammer on August 5, 1907, to Edward and Emilie (Anthony) Stammer at Westside, IA. When she was 3 years old Eleanor moved with her parents to Egan, SD, where she attended and graduated from Egan High School. Following graduation she attended Huron College for two years. On June 27, 1928, Eleanor married Wilson Bill Jelgerhuis at Egan, SD, and since that time has made her home in Huron. She worked for 9 years at Northwestern Public Service, and 9 years for Sears in the office. She did many hours of volunteer work, and was a Pink Lady at the Huron Regional Medical Center for 16 years. Eleanor was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Faith Circle, Huron Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, International Altrusa Club, and Cosmopolitan Dinner Club. She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Michael) Langner of Albuquerque, NM; and 1 granddaughter, Susan of Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilson Bill Jelgerhuis on June 10, 1979; an infant son, Ronald on March 31, 1946; and her only sister, Lee Krueger.
