Eleanor DeShazer, age 85, of 863 Pheasant Lane, Huron, died Saturday, July 21, 2007, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 24, at the First Presbyterian Church at Bonilla with Janice Palmer and Rev. Dr. William Pfautz officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Bonilla Presbyterian Church. Eleanor DeShazer was born Eleanor Atkinson on April 28, 1922, to Raymond and Ellen (Hamilton) Atkinson on a farm west of Bonilla, SD. She attended 12 years of school at Bonilla, then 2 years at Northern State Teachers College at Aberdeen where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school for 37 years in Brown, Hand, and Beadle Counties, of which the last 20 years of teaching was at Wolsey, SD. During some of those teaching years she attended summer school to continue her education. On December 21, 1947, Eleanor married Eldon DeShazer in Huron. They spent most of their married life in Bonilla Township. The last few years Eleanor made her home in Huron. She was an active member of the Bonilla Presbyterian Church, served as an elder Clerk of Session, and as a moderator of the Bonilla Presbyterian Women. Eleanor is survived by 1 sister, Dorothy Linette of Huron; a very special couple, Gene and Mary Belle Marone of Wolsey; 3 brothers-in-law, Gary (Carolyn) DeShazer of Ft. Collins, CO, Lynn DeShazer of Huron, and Victor (Erma) Woodruff of Wolsey; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon on August 11, 1992 and her 2 brothers, Delbert and Clark.
