Obituary

Eldon "Al" A. Runge, age 90, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at SunQuest Healthcare Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Eldon was born on March 8, 1925 in Gary, SD to August and Pearl (Smith) Runge. At an early age, the family moved to Watertown where he received his education. He married Hazel Schnabel on February 26, 1945. Eldon was employed with a large retail chain, then as District Manager for an insurance company. He retired in 1990, and in 2000 moved back to Huron - the place they called home after living in Iowa the prior 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, his family, and his grandchildren. His most enjoyable trips were two trips to England when son David was studying at Oxford University, a 2-week trip to Greece and Italy in 1989, and numerous trips to insurance conventions. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, and was a volunteer at St. Francis Gift Shop. Eldon is survived by his wife Hazel; son David of Boulder CO and Puerto Rico; grandson Colin of Honolulu, HI; granddaughter Clairissa of Santa Monica, CA; granddaughter Caroline of London England; and nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ray and his wife Sara, sister Violet and her husband Mike Mistzal, and other relatives.
