Elaine Wahl, age 82, of Huron, SD, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at her home. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at First Baptist Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.; or Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to Huron Hospice; or American Lutheran Christian Learning Center. Elaine Wahl was born Elaine Mae Bender, daughter of August and Louisa (Bauer) Bender, on May 21, 1928, in Wessington Springs, SD. She attended rural school graduating from 8th grade in Miller, SD, and graduating from Wessington Springs High School in 1946. Elaine attended Wessington Springs Junior College and taught in a rural school for 2 years. On August 14, 1949, Elaine married Raymond Wahl in Wessington Springs. They lived on a farm in Jerauld County before moving to Wessington Springs where she worked at different places. They moved to Huron in 1966 where she babysat many years and later worked in the Huron High School Food Service for 16 years, retiring in 1990. Elaine was an active member of First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, and singing in the church choir whenever she was needed. She was a life member of DAVA, Commander for many years, NARFE, RSVP, and helping at Christian Learning Preschool helping the three-year olds. Elaine enjoyed following her children and grandchildren in their sports and music activities. Rey and Elaine had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 14, 1999. Elaine is survived by 4 children, Julie (Dennis) Kasperson of Huron, Rick Wahl of Rapid City, Mark (Beth) Wahl of Huron, and Tom (Wanda) Wahl of Rapid City; 11 grandchildren, Travis Kasperson, Lucas Kasperson, Tyler Kasperson, Lindsey Kasperson, Catherine Wahl, Andrew Wahl, Adam Wahl, Anthony (Lindsey) Wahl, Amanda (Mark) Smith, Abigail Wahl, and Thomas Wahl; 1 brother-in-law, Gary (Sandy) Wahl of Collingswood, NJ; 2 sisters-in-law, Lorene Cavigielli of Huron, and Shirley Bender of Wessington Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond on July 15, 2001; father August Bender on July 17, 1976; mother Louisa Bender on June 3, 1974; sister Ruby Bender on March 17, 1976; and brother, Ivan Bender on December 7, 2004,
