Elaine Kropuenske, age 85, of Huron, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.
Her funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Revillo, SD, with burial in St. Pauls Lutheran Cemetery, rural Revillo.
Visitation will be Friday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.; or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service.
Elaine Kropuenske was born Elaine Dorothy Maas, daughter of August and Agnes (Schoenrock) Maas, on March 30, 1925, in Marietta, MN. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1944; graduated in 1945 from Madison, MN, Teachers Training; and graduated in 1947 from Wartburg College Teachers Training, Waverly, IA. Elaine taught in rural schools near Bellingham, MN, and in Grant County, SD.
On February 23, 1950, Elaine married Dale Kropuenske in Revillo, SD. They lived and farmed in Grant County, SD, for over 50 years. They moved to Huron in 1998.
She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Revillo where she also was a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed reading, photography, making scrapbooks, and sharing family history.
She is survived by her husband, Dale of Huron; 2 sons, LeRoy (Carolyn) Kropuenske of Pierre, and Roger (Julie) Kropuenske of Huron; 2 grandchildren, Seth Kropuenske, and Leah (Brian) Lappe; 2 brothers, Carl (Arlene) Maas of Odessa, MN, and Alvin (Jackie) Maas of Odessa, MN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Gerry Kropuenske of Milbank; sister-in-law, Wanda Kropuenske of California; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 sister, Irene Maas; 2 half-brothers, Otto Maas and Bernard Maas; and 1 half-sister, Rose Meyers.
