Elaine M. Hofer, age 90, of Leawood, KS, and formerly of Huron, died Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. Her funeral service will be 10:30 am on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elaine was born on September 30, 1925 in Huron, SD to Alex and Marcella (Molter) Palt. She attended school in Huron and worked in several cafes in Huron throughout her life. Elaine was united in marriage to Joseph G. Hofer on July 5, 1952 in Huron where they lived their entire married life until Joseph passed away on September 29, 2005. Elaine continued to live in Huron until she moved to Kansas in April 2014 where she had an assisting living apartment near her youngest son.
Elaine is survived by 2 sons, James (Karla) Hofer of Mitchell, SD and Kyle (Brynn) Hofer of Leawood, KS;
6 grandchildren, John (Beth) Hofer of Bonner Springs, KS, James Basil Hofer of Las Vegas, NV, Joey (Jodi) Hofer of Mitchell, SD, Brandon Hofer and Brittany Hofer both of Plano, TX, Emma Hofer of Leawood, KS; 7 great grandchildren, Kiesha, Keira, and Kale, all of Mitchell, SD, Brock, Ty, Cole, and Paige, all of Bonner Springs, KS; 1 sister, Lynn (Larry) Reimnitz of Huron, SD; 1 brother-in-law, David Hofer of Brookings, SD; and 1 daughter-in-law, Joy Hofer of Frisco, TX.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and step father, John Baker, husband Joseph, and 1 son, Shane Hofer on March 17, 2015.
