Elaine Bauder, age 89, of Huron, formerly of Alpena, died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at Living Hope Alliance Church, 18th & Frank Ave., with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.; or Tuesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Elaine Bauder was born Elaine Ester Thelma Barstead, daughter of Thomas and Esther (Ousdal) Barstead, on April 23, 1923, in Woonsocket, SD. She grew up on the family farm near Woonsocket and graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1942. She attended General Beadle College in Madison, SD, from 1942-43, graduating with a teaching certificate. She taught school for one year in rural Letcher, SD. On August 28, 1944, Elaine married Arnold Bauder in Sioux Falls, SD. They owned and operated a farm near Alpena until 1992 when they moved into Huron. Elaine spent most of her adult life as a homemaker. She was a member of Living Hope Alliance Church (previously named Huron Mission Church); Carlyle Extension Club; and Christian Women's Club. Her many interests included teaching Sunday School, growing flowers, studying the Bible, and spending time with her family. Elaine is survived by her husband, Arnold of Huron; 2 sons, Jerry (Arlene) Bauder of Huron, and Randy (Kay) Bauder of Huron; 3 grandchildren, Seth (Suzanne) Bauder of Huron, Andy Bauder of Fayetteville, NC, and Eric Bauder of Alcester, SD; 1 great grandson, Neil Bauder of Huron; 1 brother, Leonard Barstead of Kincardine, Ontario, Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, Percy Barstead, Arnold Barstead, Amos (Eva) Barstead, and Kenneth (Gertrude) Barstead; sister-in-law, Isabel Barstead.
