Obituary

Eileen Harms, age 86, of 420 21st St. SW, Huron, died Friday, May 11, 2007, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 16, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Altoona Cemetery at Hitchcock. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening or Wednesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday afternoon. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Eileen Harms was born Eileen Clara Baseman on February 1, 1921, to Edward and Rosa (Petersen) Baseman at Huron. She was baptized and confirmed at American Lutheran Church. She attended Huron grade school and graduated from Huron High School in 1939. She taught in various rural schools for several years prior to her marriage. On October 9, 1948, Eileen married Russell Harms on the Baseman farmstead east of Huron. She lived on the farm all of her married life at Hitchcock. She was a member of the Good Willing Workers Club, Huron Area Senior Center and the American Lutheran Church. Her hobbies were handiwork, gardening, sewing, and genealogist of the Baseman and Harms family tree. She was a very loving mother and was devoted to her family and friends. Her children are very thankful and cherish their memories of her. She is survived by 3 daughters, Reva (Randy) Stolpe of Muskego, WI, Carol Harms of Huron, and LaJune (Richard) Presuhn of Huron; 1 son Dale Harms of Hitchcock; 4 grandchildren, Patrick Stolpe of Phoenix, AZ, R.A. Stolpe of Phoenix, AZ, Shanon (Andrew) Kerkhove of Salem, SD, and Jennifer Presuhn of Vermillion, SD; 1 great grandson, Braeden Kerkhave of Salem, SD; 1 brother, Elwood (Arleen) Baseman of Omaha, NE; 2 sisters, Esther Gould of Hitchcock and Eleanor (Duane) Wanner of Eureka, SD; and 5 sisters-in-law, Phyllis Harms of Huron, Lucille Gruenwald of California, Bev Gerlack of Washington State, Joan Harms of Hawaii, and Mildred Harms of Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell on January 6, 1995; her son, Steven Harms on July 11, 2001; her great granddaughter, Abbigail Kerkhove; her brother, Edgar Bud Baseman in August of 2001; 6 brothers-in-law, Albert Gould, Ellwood, Leroy, Harold, Vernon and Lester Harms; and 3 sisters-in-law, Deloris Baseman, Irene Harms, and Thelma Harms.
