Edwin P. Decker, age 82, of 57 Aberdeen Ave. NE, Huron, died Saturday, August 12, 2006, at Sioux Valley Hospital at Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 17, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Boehne officiating. Burial will be at Richland Cemetery, rural Carpenter, with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans council. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or Thursday morning prior to the service at the church. There will be a Devotional Service at 8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Edwin Perry Decker was born on June 5, 1924, to Jacob P.M. and Susie L. (Tschetter) Decker at rural Carpenter, SD. He attended Bunker Hill Grade School at rural Carpenter and Yale High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on April 22, 1946, and spent 2 years at Elmendorf Air Force base at Anchorage, Alaska. He was honorably discharged on April 21, 1950, and returned to Carpenter. On June 17, 1951, Edwin married Darlene Hein at Trinity Lutheran Church at Yale, SD. He was employed at IHC in Carpenter for a number of years and then he bought the building and ran Eds Service until 1975. His wife, Darlene, died on March 6, 1971. He then was employed at the Yale Co-op for 7 years. He retired in 1982 and shortly thereafter he moved to Huron and has lived here since that time. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, and the William Reaves American Legion Post #7 of Huron. He is survived by 3 daughters, Vickey (James) Moeding of Huron, Darla Decker of Huron, and Lachele (Marty) Wenzel of Huron; 1 son, Marty (Lanette Jacob) Decker of Brandon; 1 daughter-in-law, Veronica Neitzel of Watertown; 7 grandchildren, Jody (Rudy) Ramon, Tara Clark, Melissa Decker, Emily Wenzel, Allen Moeding, Austyn Molyneux, and Jason Deming; 6 great grandchildren, Justin Clark, Cristy Ramon, Taylor Decker, Brandt Geier, Ashlyn Geier, and Cayden Geier; 2 sisters, Mabel Mick Barrett of Mitchell, and Clara (Laverne) Decker of Huron; 2 sisters-in-law, Arlene Tiny Kelley of Huron, and Delphine Decker of Yale; 1 brother-in-law, Elbert Wipf of Oklahoma; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene in 1971; 3 sons, Dennis in 1961, Rick in 1982, and Gail Dinky in 2005; 2 brothers, John in infancy, and Clarence; 1 sister, Emma Wipf; and 1 brother-in-law, Leo Barrett.
