Edward C. Jones, age 93, of Sioux Falls, and formerly of Huron, died Thursday, September 15, 2005, at Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community at Sioux Falls. His funeral mass will be at 11:00 AM Monday, September 19, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Joe Holzhauser officiating. Burial will be at St. Martin's Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Monday morning. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Edward C. Jones was born on November 28, 1911, to Alfred and Alvina (Luetje) Jones on the family farm southwest of Huron. He received his education at a country school. In the 1930's he worked on various farms in Minnesota, returning to Huron in 1938 and working for Eilers Furs of Huron. On June 6, 1940, Edward married Ethel Mary Morse at St. Martins Catholic Church in Huron. The couple lived and raised their family in Huron. In 1941, Ed began a 30 year career with Armour & Company as head cattle buyer. He retired in 1971. In 1995, they moved to Sioux Falls and Ed became a resident of Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community in August of 2004. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish (St. Martins Catholic Church), Armour's Mens Club, and the Issak Walton League. Ed's family always came first in his life - he especially enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren and was a caregiver to his wife for 30 years after she became ill. He was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables, enjoyed yard work, golfing, playing horseshoes, reading the newspaper, and playing cards. He is survived by 1 son, Dennis (Karen) Jones of Sioux Falls; 2 daughters, Linda (Francis, Jr. "Poncho") Bennett of Fridley, MN, and Mary Ann (Larry) Anderson of Milwaukee, WI; 6 grandchildren, Zachary Jones, Adam Jones, Jourdan (Kimberly) Bennett, Christopher Anderson, Nicholas Anderson, and Sarah (Todd) Fosheim; 3 great-grandsons, Jonathan Fosheim, Michael Fosheim, and Joseph Fosheim; and 1 sister, Jesse (Ward) Evans of Huron.
