Obituary

Edward E. Brenner, Sr., age 77, of 737 15th St. SW, Huron, SD, formerly of Hitchcock, died on Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

His funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at the Hitchcock United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron with the family present from 5-7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Edward Ervin Brenner, Sr., the son of Edward and Katherina (Heer) Brenner was born on July 23, 1931, in Mitchell, South Dakota. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on October 5, 1951. During his service, Edward received the Occupational Medal (Germany) and The National Defense Service Medal. Edward married Carol Boomsma on December 28, 1954 in Wolsey, SD. After his discharge, Edward worked for the South Dakota State Highway Department in Huron. Edward then moved to the farm and farmed until he retired.

Edward was a member of the Hitchcock United Methodist Church, the Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776, and the William Reeves American Legion Post #7. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, gardening, and cooking. Edward enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, great grandkids, and his special pet, Lucky.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Carol of Huron; his children, Rhonda Walters, Huron, SD, Judy Brenner, Sioux Falls, SD, Edward (Diann) Brenner, Redfield, SD; and, Kathy Watson (James Hines), Huron, SD; 8 grandchildren: Sarah Myers (Dave Hansen), Steven Lovett, Carol Lea Walters, Shannon (Mark) Malone, Jami Brenner (Stacy Whitlock) Nicole (Levi) Rogers, and Michelle and Jennifer Watson; 8 great-grandchildren: Sasha Ford, Satoya Myers, Alexis Hansen, Kati Schwartz, Nikylee Schwartz, Dawsyn and Hailey Rogers, and Amyah Greene; brother Eugene (Rose) Brenner, Huron, SD; sisters, Violet Weber, Huron, SD, and Lorraine (Clarence) Baker, Mt. Shasta, CA.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; 4 half-sisters; one half-brother; and his step-father, Clifford Tendeland.
