Edna Peterson, age 93, of Huron, formerly of Wessington, SD died Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron. Her funeral will be 10:00 am Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church in Huron with burial in Wessington Cemetery with lunch to follow at Wessington First Presbyterian Church. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8 pm Monday, December 26, 2011 at Welter Funeral Home with a 6:30 pm prayer service; or one hour prior to the service. Edna Ruth Peterson was born February 17, 1918 in Wessington, SD to Guy and Ada (Sass) Stobbs. She graduated from Wessington High School in 1935. Edna married Alfred Peterson on May 24, 1942 in Wessington, SD. The couple lived on a farm near Wessington until 1960 when they moved into Wessington. Edna worked in the Wessington School's lunch room and as an assistant at the Wessington Public Library. In the early 1990's, the couple moved to Huron and Edna joined the Huron Regional Medical Centers Pink Ladies, which she greatly enjoyed. Edna was a beloved and missed member of the Wessington Community. She was a member of the R.N.A., Watson-Krauter American Legion Auxiliary Post #110, and a member of both Huron and Wessington's First Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women. She enjoyed quilting, baking apple pies and bread for her family, reading, and crossword puzzles. Edna is survived by her children, Ruth (Don) Bennett of Huron, Kenneth (Kathy) Peterson of St. Charles, IA, Carol Peterson of Boulder, CO, Phyllis (Kenneth) Jones of Huron, Maxine Cavenee of Redfield; eight grandchildren, Dennis (Stephanie) Bennett, Dwane (Susan) Peterson, Nathan Peterson, Daniel Peterson, Bryce Peterson, Faye (Jay) Adams, Bethany (Aaron) Lass, Andrea Jones, Matthew (Stephanie) Cavenee; 15 great grandchildren, Dana, Randa, Tim, Harley, Bradley, Daniel, Chelsea, Dylan, Josh, Jayden, Sophia, Trenton, Brynlee, Cole, Mark; sister, Blanche McNeil of Huron; sisters-in-law, Eileen Cancio, Jean Peterson; many nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Atch in 2002; son, Bruce in 1991; grandson, Jason Cavenee in 1998; two brothers, John and William "Bud"; and four sisters, Dollie, Nellie, Evelyn, and baby Violet.
