Edna Meyer, age 87, of Huron, died on Monday, November 30, 2009, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 4, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday morning at the church one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be directed to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
Edna Meyer was born Edna Elaine Niewohner, daughter of Fred and Lucile (Edwards) Niewohner, near Swanville, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. She attended high school in Swanville and graduated in 1940. She then attended Minneapolis School of Cosmetology and following graduation she worked as a hairdresser in salons in Minneapolis and Fairbanks, Alaska.
On December 27, 1947, Edna was united in marriage to W.H. Whip Meyer in Swanville. They moved to Huron in October 1950 and founded Meyer Modernizing Company where Edna worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church; William Reaves American Legion Post #7 Auxiliary; 8 & 40; Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776 Auxiliary; and Huron Senior Center.
Edna was a very accomplished seamstress and enjoyed Mission quilting for the church.
She is survived by 1 son, Kenneth (Suzanne) Meyer of Huron, 3 grandchildren, John Meyer, Johnny (Kim) Richman, and Tina (Brett) Pearson; and 2 great grandchildren, Karlee Richman, and Boston Pearson.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Whip in 1998; 2 brothers, Harley Niewohner and Jack Niewohner; 4 sisters, Naomi Kuehne, Helen Whitford, Donna Stunes, and Wanda Krousey; 3 nieces, Pamela Whitford, Janet Niewohner, and Jo Anne Kuchinski.
