Edna L. Jans, age 89, of 1225 Minnesota Ave. SW, Huron, died Friday, February 17, 2006 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 21, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale Sattgast officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday morning. Edna Jans was born Edna L. Rath on August 22, 1916, to Gottfried and Katherina (Schaffer) Rath at Parkston, SD. She grew up and graduated from Ree Heights High School. On April 28, 1940, Edna married Herman Jans at Miller, SD. After their marriage they moved to Huron. In 1954, she began working at J.J. Newberrys in the infant-wear department and as cashier. She retired in 1977 and continued to live in Huron. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Edna loved to knit, crochet, and make crafts for her family and friends. She also enjoyed camping and fishing with her family. She is survived by 1 daughter, Donna (Donald) Hein of Huron; 2 grandchildren, Kimberly (Dave) Mattke of Huron, and Josh Hein of Brookings; 2 great grandchildren, Tyler Mattke and Myranda Mattke of Huron; 1 sister, Eleanor Durfee of Redfield; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman on December 1, 2005; 1 brother, John Rath; and 4 sisters, Anna Bawdon, Katherine Heckenliable, Gladys Durfee, and Elizabeth Durfee.
