Obituary

Edna Haeder, age 87, of 282 Catalpa Ave. SE, Wolsey, SD, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Friday, January 25, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wolsey with Rev. L. Scott Spiehs and Rev. Terry Naasz officiating. Burial will be at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery at Wolsey. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, or Friday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Edna Haeder was born Edna Louise Doering on May 5, 1920, to Richard and Anna (Bartel) Doering at rural Wolsey, SD. She attended St. Johns Lutheran Elementary School and graduated from Wolsey High School. She worked for the U.S. Government Triple A Office in Huron. On June 4, 1944, Edna married Hugo Haeder at Wolsey. They farmed in the Wolsey area. Edna also worked many years at the Beadle County Extension Office. She was a life-long member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wolsey, and very active in the Lutheran Womens Missionary League where she served as a South Dakota District President and later as International Recording Secretary. She taught Sunday School, and was a member of the church choir, bell choir, the Happy Homemakers Extension Club, and the Wolsey Senior Citizens Center. She served as secretary of the Heartland Lutherans for Life, and was secretary of the South Dakota Lutherans for Life. She is survived by 3 children, Daryl (Linda) Haeder of Huron, Arlene (Rev. Terry) Naasz of Brookings, and Kerwin (Gail) Haeder of Huron; 7 grandchildren, Donna Haeder, Corey (Jessica) Haeder, Chad (Michele) Haeder, Matt (Carissa) Naasz, Micah (Nicole) Naasz, Joshua Haeder, and Kameryn Haeder; 2 step granddaughters, Lisa (Skip) McWethy, and Lori Cameron; 6 great grandchildren, Jordyn Haeder, Dawson Haeder, Trayce Haeder, Richard Haeder, Tyler Haeder, and Isabelle Naasz; 1 step great grandson, Peyton McWethy; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugo on October 4, 1990; 1 grandson, Daryn Haeder; 2 sisters, Marie Simantel and Flora Holleman; 2 brothers-in-law, Rudolph Simantel and Garrett Holleman.
