Edith Phillips, age 85, of Huron, died Tuesday July 17, 2012, at her home. Her funeral service will be 10:30 am Monday, July 23, 2012, at Living Hope Alliance Church in Huron with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be 6-8 pm Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 pm; or Monday morning one hour prior to the service. Edith Phillips was born April 26, 1927 to Edward and Mary (Hamann) Hartwig in Huron. She attended school in Huron. Edith was baptized into the Living Hope Alliance Church, formerly the Huron Mission Church. Edith married Horace Phillips on April 19, 1944 in Huron where they raised their family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a loving mother. Edith was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Great Plains #14. Edith is survived by her three children, Cheryl (Albert) Koester of Huron, Janice (Randy) Werdin of Sioux Falls, Allan (Donna) Phillips of Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Hartwig of Acampo, CA; several nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Horace in 1986; son, Steven Phillips in 1997; twin brother, Hans Hartwig; brother, Gerhardt Hartwig; and sister, Darlene Swimmer.
