Edith Blaseg, age 79, of Wolsey, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Huron Regional Medical Center after a battle with cancer with family by her side. Her funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 2, 2020 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey with burial at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 PM on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 3-4 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to LWML-St. John's Lutheran-Wolsey or the Avera Cancer Institute located in the Don & Carmen Meyer Center of Excellence in Aberdeen, SD.
Edith Carol Blaseg was born on June 17, 1941 in Highmore to parents Carl H. and Ellen A. (Cherland) Olson. Edith attended school in Highmore and graduated from Northern State University with her teaching degree. Edith taught in a one room country school house.
Edith married Verlin Blaseg at Sedgwick Church on October 19, 1962. The family made their home in Wolsey. She substitute taught for many years as well as worked at Frosty's, Wolsey Senior Center and the 281 Travel Center. She loved to volunteer at the Highmore Nursing Home. She enjoyed craft fairs and selling Avon, mostly for the socializing. She enjoyed entering items such as flowers, baked goods, and crafts at the State Fair every year. Edith was a longtime bowler, bowling in many leagues at both Huron bowling alleys. Edith was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and LWML.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Carl.
Grateful for having shared in her life is her husband Verlin of Wolsey; sons, Robert (Sherri) Blaseg of Huron and Paul Blaseg of Wolsey, and daughter Roberta Ransom of Parker, SD; 2 grandchildren, Natashia (SSG Joshua) Baer of Sioux Falls and Brittany (Brandon) Wingert of Alexandria, SD; 4 great-grandchildren, Hailey and Zachary Wingert and JoAnne and Emalyn Baer; niece Shawn (Lance) King of Sioux Falls and nephew Travis (Lori) Olson of Madison; Aunt Alice Buchheim of Highmore and several cousins, great nieces and great nephews, along with a great-great niece and great-great nephew.
