Obituary

Edith Ede Hansen, age 82, of 659 14th St. SW, Huron, died Saturday, June 2, 2007, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 5, at Riverview United Methodist Church with Rev. Iva Laudermith officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery at Redfield. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening and Tuesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Edith Hansen was born Edith Angeline Appletoft on March 16, 1925, to Otto and Alma (Kvist) Appletoft at Redfield, SD. Ede was a first generation American in her family as her parents immigrated to the United States from Sweden. She attended elementary and high school at Redfield. She moved to Moscow, ID, where she met Howard Hansen, and they were married on July 25, 1942. While Howard served overseas in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Edie returned to Redfield where she lived until 1945 when Howard returned to the states and was stationed at Brawley, CA. Ede joined him there where their twins, Lynne and Leslie, were born. They lived in Brawley until 1948 when they moved to Grand Island, NE; back to Redfield in 1953 where Ede worked as a bookkeeper for her husband, Howard; and to Huron in 1969 where she has lived since that time. Ede was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church, Forrest McMullen VFW Post #1776 Auxiliary, William Reaves American Legion Post #7 Auxiliary, Huron Lioness Club, Beadle County Humane Society, and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Her many interests included bowling (Ede was a member of a league team that placed 6th in a national tournament in Las Vegas), knitting, crocheting, arts and crafts, fishing, and feeding the birds and squirrels in her back yard. She is survived by 1 son, Lynne Butch (Melinda Mindy) Hansen of Sadieville, KY; 1 daughter, Leslie Loughrige of Versailles, KY; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy (Joan) Hansen, Joseph (Chastity) Hansen, Robin (Bill) Sarazine, Heather (Boun) Chanthavong, and Lori (Chris) Wolfe; 9 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 1 sister-in-law, Olene Appletoft of Aberdeen; nieces and nephews, Becky Martell, Bonnie Haessig, Tommy Appletoft, Eddie Appletoft, Alvin Appletoft, Larry Appletoft, Noreen Arnbrecht, Marilyn White, Martin Moeller, Rev. Richard Moeller, and James Moeller; her many friends; and her beloved dog, Pascha. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; 1 sister, Nellie Moeller; 6 brothers; and 5 sisters-in-law.
