Edwin N. Irving, age 70, of Huron, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Avera Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs after a lengthy illness. His Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial following at St. Martin Cemetery. 

Visitation, with his family present, will be from 5 -7 p.m. on Thursday, March 5th at Welter Funeral Home with a scripture prayer service and rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m.


Edwin Nicholas Irving, son of William and Margaret Irving was born on August 8, 1955, in Huron, South Dakota (SD). He grew up in Letcher, SD, attending Letcher Public School and graduating in 1973.

Edwin was united in marriage with Kathy Van Laecken Irving on September 21, 1973, in Letcher, SD. Edwin and Kathy had two children born to this union. The family lived in Letcher until 1978 when they moved to Huron.

Edwin worked at Terry’s Propane (1973 – 1978) in Letcher, Ellwein Distributing (1978 –1981) in Huron , Metz Baking Company/Sara Lee Bakery/EarthGrains (1981 – 2012), and the Huron Public School System (2013 -2015).

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Broadland Creek Men’s Golf League. He enjoyed spending time with family, watching the grandkid”s activities, golfing, and of course enjoying a Chicago Bears Football Game and an ice cold Busch Light.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife (Kathy) two children Jamie (Shane) Campbell, Watertown, SD, Jeremy (Joy) Irving, Pierre, SD, five grandchildren (Keegan, Gavin, Regan, Rylie, Gabi ,and the many grand puppies and horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents (William and Margaret Irving) and his in-laws (Albert and Charlotte Van Laecken).
