Earldene Greenfield, age 87, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at Avantara in Huron.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Huron Christian Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
A committal service was held at 1:30 p.m. MT on Tuesday, August 26, at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Earldene Frances Greenfield was born on January 17, 1938 to parents Earl and Ilo (Coral) Husted in Smithland, Iowa. The family moved to Huron, where Earldene graduated from Huron High School in 1956. That same year, Earldene married James Greenfield in Huron. That family made their home in Huron, raising their four children. Earldene worked for the Huron schools for 16 years in food service and selling activity tickets. She then began her career at the Beadle County Courthouse where she worked in Public Assistance. She retired in 2008 after 22 years.
Earldene had many passions in life. She was active in the Marine Corps Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, where she was a life-member of both organizations. She was also a Pink Lady and was a life member of the HRMC Ladies Auxiliary. Earldene was a devout member of Huron Christian Church for many years.
Always a cowgirl, Earldene was active in rodeo for many years. She worked with the Little Britches Rodeo, High School and 4-H rodeos. In 2004, she received the prestigious Friend of Rodeo Award. She also enjoyed supporting Steers for State.
She is survived by her children, Wanda (Greg Velasquez) Artz, of San Jose, CA, Neal (Leslie) Greenfield of Fairbanks, Alaska, Mark Greenfield of Vista, CA, and Dale (Margaret) Greenfield of Huron; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; her sister, Linda Schamp of Aurora, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim in 2004, her brother Larry Husted, sister Carol infancy, sister Laura Smidt, and daughter-in-law Yvonne Greenfield.
Earldene requested in lieu of flowers to please donate to Heartland 4-H Rodeo Club.
