Earl Scott, age 93, of Wessington, SD, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller, SD.
His funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at Wessington Cemetery in Wessington.
Visitation with family present will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 28, at Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to service at the funeral home on Thursday.
Earl F. Scott was born on April 24, 1917, in Wagner, SD, to Fred and Lucy (Martin) Scott. He graduated from Wagner High School.
Earl married Mildred Syring on February 10, 1941, in Sioux Falls. The couple lived for one year in Corvallis, OR, where Earl worked for Bell telephone and as a taxi driver. They returned to Wessington, SD, in 1942 to start their family and begin farming.
Earl was elected to the Wessington School board and Wessington Township Board. He was a member of the Huron Elks Lodge 444 for over 50 years. Earl loved to fish and camp on the Missouri River at South Whitlock. He truly loved his time at the river and was known to spend time there throughout the summer.
Earl is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred; son, Mark (Peg) Scott of Wessington; daughter, Sharon (Darwin) Johansen of Worthington, MN; 5 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Martin (Margaret) Scott; sister, Leola (Lester) Kane; and a grandchild, Kristine Johansen.
