Earl A. Perryman, age 83, of Huron, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Huron Regional Medical Center. His private funeral service will be on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial at Pukwana Community Cemetery in Pukwana, South Dakota. Visitation will be from 3-6 PM on Friday, August 21, 2020 with family present from 5-6 PM. CDC Guidelines will be in place and masks are recommended.
Earl A. Perryman was born at Hurley, South Dakota to George A. "Ace" and Jessie (Warren) Perryman on October 13, 1936. The family moved to the Osceola-Bancroft area in 1945. Earl grew up on the family farm near Osceola. He graduated from Bancroft High School, and later received his Bachelor's degree from Huron College. He played amateur baseball in Huron and De Smet while in college. He served in the SD Army National Guard from 1959 to 1965, with the 153 rd Engineering Battalion.
Earl spent 15 years in secondary education in South Dakota, working in different positions including teacher, counselor, and school district business manager. He attended the University of Wyoming-Laramie, on a Carnegie Fellowship. In 1970, he obtained a Master's Degree in counseling from South Dakota State University.
On July 15, 1972, he married Linnet K. Priebe at Chamberlain, South Dakota. In 1975, he left education and was employed by the State of South Dakota for over 20 years, working for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation out of the Huron and Brookings offices.
After retirement, he and Linnet spent a lot of time providing supportive physical care of their parents and maintaining family property. Hobbies included both summer and ice fishing. Both he and Linnet spent every fall deer hunting, south of Chamberlain in the Elm Creek area.
Earl belonged to various associations while working and was on the Board of Trustees of the Riverview Methodist Church in later years.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linnet of Huron; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Lois McCormick and several cousins. Earl and Linnet always joked that they co-raised their 7 nieces and nephews as they spent summers and holidays in South Dakota together; Shari (Ben) Matheson of Mercer Island, WA, Sean (Amanda) McCormick of Buffalo, NY, Scott (Lisa) McCormick of Birmingham, AL, Kara McCormick of Sioux Falls, Kory (Todd) Livingston of Bellevue, WA, Kevin (Jodi) McCormick of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Lesley (James) Petree of Sioux Falls; and 19 grand nieces and nephews.
