Dwayne E. Poulisse, age 83, of Huron, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 at Huron Regional Medical Center due to Covid-19. His funeral service will be 10:00 am on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Welter Funeral Home with burial following at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-6 pm on Wednesday with the family present from 5-6pm at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. CDC guidelines and masks will be required at both services.
Dwayne E. Poulisse, was born on December 22, 1936 to parents Nannie and Edith (Anderson) Poulisse in Huron, South Dakota. He grew up with two sisters and a brother in the country.
Dwayne had his own business called Grandpa's Woodcrafts. He enjoyed making wooden toys for kids from doll cradles to barns, trucks, fences, rocking horses, etc. He enjoyed the people he sold to at craft fairs and the South Dakota State Fair. If he didn't have a pattern for a toy, he would make one, he loved it all. He also managed SuperAmerica Convenience Store for 15 years. Dwayne was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Huron. In his spare time, Dwayne liked to bowl and fish.
Dwayne married LaVon Borah on July 10, 1971 in Huron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Marvella and Dale Rounds; and his great grandson, Timothy David.
He is survived by his wife LaVon of Huron; sister, Donna (Don) Patterson of Arizona, brother Dennis (Merna) Poulisse of Iroquois; children, son Greg (Tammy) Poulisse of Illinois and their sons, Jacob, Daniel, Nicholas, and Matthew (Jessica), son Brian (Carrie) Poulisse of Illinois and their children, Ameila Armitage and Richard Poulisse, daughter Debbie Holcomb of Illinois and her children, Jason (Autumn) Holcomb, Tyler Holcomb, Cortney Madden, Kimberlyn (Joel) Freudenberg, and Kellianne Holcomb; 8 great-grandchildren, Eevie, Nora, Theodore, Payton, Aiden, Mylie, Stella, and Rylee;. Stepchildren, Angela (Sean) Boylan of Minnesota and their children, Matt Boylan, Eileen (Chris) Hoffner, and Amy Boylan, Cynthia (Jon) Merchant of Sioux Falls and their children, Cynthia (Stian) Hunter, Wes (Samantha) Biggs, Sarah Biggs, Andrew (Nancy) Huizenga and their son Brian of New Jersey, and Daniel Huizenga of Huron; and 4 step great grandchildren, Krishten, Madison, Kinsley, and Keegan.
