Obituary

Dwaine E. Dunning, 96, of Huron, SD, passed from this life to his Heavenly home on Friday, March 11, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at Pibel Bible Camp on Pibel Lake in Nebraska. A tentative date is September 3, 2016.

He was born in Sabina, Ohio to Guy B. Dunning and Anna M. (Sholes) Dunning May 24, 1919. At the age of three he started playing the violin which he played his whole life. He was Concert Master for three symphonies throughout the years; Scottsbluff, NE, Watertown, SD and Huron, SD. He taught violin to several young people through the years. He directed choirs in churches and schools. He passed the love of classical music to his children and grandchildren. His four grandchildren all play instruments.

Guy Dunning, his father, was an ordained minister. Dwaine started preaching at 18 years old, helping his dad out whenever needed. He attended Minnesota Bible University (now Crossroads College) in Rochester, MN. He then attended Manhattan Bible College in Manhattan, KS. He then attended Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Illinois. He taught at five colleges through the years; Platte Valley Bible College (Scottsbluff, NE), Dakota Bible College (Huron, SD), El Paso Christian College (El Paso, TX), St. Louis Christian College (St. Louis, Missouri) and Nebraska Christian College (Norfolk, NE). He most recently led Bible studies as needed at the Huron Senior Center, SunQuest Health Center, and Stoneybrook. He served churches in Nebraska, Colorado, Illinois, Montana, South Dakota, Arizona as minister.

During the 70's he was a published author several times for the "Christian Standard" magazine. His book "A New Song" will be published soon. He was a walking encyclopedia of history facts and Bible information. He was skilled in translation of the Biblical Greek. His love of God's Word was a lifelong joy.

His hobbies were working on his 1915 Ford model T and his 1925 Ford model T Roadster. He repaired musical instruments, and was a great wood carver.

He had a kind heart and spirit. He was truly a "righteous" man. We loved him deeply, but we KNOW where he has gone. One thing we wish is that anyone who ever came in contact with him could be as prepared to meet their maker as he was.

He is survived by his daughter, Deirdre "Deedee" (Terry) Dabney of Huron, SD and son, Greg (Roslyn) Dunning of Tucson, AZ. He also leaves four grandchildren, Christopher (Clarissa) Dabney, Pierre, SD, James "Tye" (Sarah) Dabney of Lincoln NE, Daniel (BreeAnna) Dunning of Tucson, AZ and Sarah (Andrew) Ling of Tucson, AZ. Great-grandchildren are Grace, Isaiah, Elliana Dunning and Chloe, Callen, Cora Dabney. He was preceded in death by his wife Jane (Stivers) Dunning, his parents Guy B. and Anna Dunning, sister Guila Dunning, brother Gail Dunning and one granddaughter Laurie Dabney.
