Duane Struck, age 90, of Wolsey, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Avantara in Huron. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Wolsey, with burial to follow at St. John's Cemetery in Wolsey. Visitation, with his family present, will be from 5-7 P.M., on Friday, August 4, 2023 at St. John's Lutheran Church. A Prayer Service will begin at 6:30 P.M. on Friday evening at the church.

Duane Werner Struck, was born in Huron, SD on April 21, 1933, to Werner and Hattie (Klicker) Struck.  Being an only child, he enjoyed sharing holidays and birthdays with his many cousins. Duane grew up helping his parents on the family farm in Wolsey, SD. He was baptized at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron but was confirmed and worshiped most of his life at St. John's Lutheran in Wolsey.  He attended Wolsey Public School and graduated in 1951.

Duane worked on the farm for a year and a half after graduation until being drafted where he spent 16 weeks training at Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri. As a Veteran of the Korean War, he was given three commendations as a crane operator on the docks.

Upon his return to the states, he worked for a small contractor in Vienna, SD where he learned there was no quitting time when you have your own business. He later attended college in Fort Wayne, Indiana to study Mechanical Engineering, but had to return to the family farm when his father became ill. Although not his original choice, farming became his passion. Through hard work, determination, and key business decisions, he completely changed the operation. For over 60 years, he continued to grow the farm through partnership with his son, David.

Later in life, he enjoyed spending winters down south visiting family and friends.

Duane was married on June 19, 1960 to Sylvia Ruth Spooner whom he met on a blind date.

Duane is survived by his special friend, Velma French; his three children, David (Brenda) Struck, Diane (Brad) Hennings and Becky (Mike) Trask and grandchildren:  Brady Struck (fiancée' Cadee Schelske), Maycee (fiance Marc Peterson) Guyer, Brian Hennings, Ashlie (Jonathan) Ragle, Jennifer Kirkpatrick, Andrew and Jake Trask.
