Douglas Tyrrell, Sr., age 65, of rural Huron, SD, died Friday, June 3, 2011, at Huron Regional Medical Center. His memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at First Assembly of God Church with burial of his cremated remains at 2:00 p.m. MDT Monday, June 20, at Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis. There will be no visitation. Douglas Earl Tyrrell, son of Phillip Earl "Butch" Tyrrell and Laura Ann (Dent) Tyrrell, was born on December 2, 1945, at Sprague Hospital in Huron, SD. Doug attended school at the Tyrrell Country School northeast of Yale in Foster Township; attended Yale High School, then attended and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1963. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 31, 1963. He was honorably discharged as a SP4 on July 29, 1966. He returned home and worked at Huron Culvert and Tank Company. On December 9, 1968, Doug married Sandi Gilman at Chamberlain, SD. They moved to Huron and Doug attended Northeast College of Commerce obtaining a degree in accounting and business. He then worked at St. John's Hospital in the business office before he began his careers at Huron Dressed Beef; Dakota Pork; Cain Creek Oil; and finally McGillvrey Oil of Huron. Doug was always an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed gardening. His children, and most of all his grandchildren, were the light of his life. Doug had a great sense of humor and enjoyed visiting and telling stories. He loved July 4th celebrations and made sure that everyone enjoyed a great fireworks display. He is survived by his wife, Sandi Tyrrell of rural Huron; his son, Doug Jr. (Nikki) Tyrrell of Dickenson, ND, and their children, Olivia, Lindsay, Kelsie, and Emily; 1 daughter, Laurie (Bill) Maas of Cavour, SD, and their children, Justin, Adam, and Kaitlyn; and 1 sister, Mary Lois Tyrrell of Redfield, SD; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Mark Tyrrell, and Duane Tyrrell; and 1 sister, Dianne "Bitsy" Warnell.
