Obituary

Dorothy Pollock, age 85, of Huron, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron surrounded by her family.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron with burial at St. Martin Cemetery.

Visitation, with the family present, will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, October 17, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with a Celebration of Life service to begin at 7:00 p.m.; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Dorothy Wanken, the daughter of Mathew F. and Lilly L. (Keller) Wanken was born on June 19, 1931 in Redfield, SD.  She attended school in the Rockam-Redfield area and graduated from Redfield High School.  Dorothy also attended Cosmetology School in Sioux Falls, SD.

Dorothy married James R. Pollock on October 23, 1954 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Huron, SD, where they have lived their entire married life.

Dorothy was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. Dorothy was very active in and out of church serving on many different church boards. She was also the head of the Parish Funeral Committee for many years.  Dorothy was a Girl Scout leader, a member of The Republican Women, The League of Women Voters, Reddy Killowatts, and the Antique Power Association.  Dorothy also organized the Northwestern Energy Retirement Dinner and served on the Election Board.

Dorothy enjoyed doing Genealogy, birdwatching, crocheting, and reading. She loved Astronomy and looking at the stars and moon in the night sky.  Dorothy loved her family greatly and was a great mom, grandma and great-grandma to all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared in Dorothy's life are her two sons, John (Barbara) Pollock of Clark, SD and Leo (Beth) Pollock of Huron, SD; two daughters, Pat (Dale) Shoemaker of Wolsey, SD, and Mary (Joel) Terrill of Chandler, AZ; ten  grandchildren, Corrine (Joel) Kallemeyn, Cristina (Timothy) Goldammer, Mathew (Sarita) Pollock, Jeremy (Deidra) Shoemaker, Kristin (Tony) Cronin, Rita (Nick Eaglestar) Pollock, Charles Pollock, Mike (Ashley) Pollock, James Terrill, and Jacob Terrill; fifteen great grandchildren, William Goldammer, Quentin Goldammer, Eric Kallemeyn, Emily Kallemeyn, Laura Eaglestar, Sam Pollock, Elizabeth Pollock, Leah Pollock, Aidan Shoemaker, Joselyn Shoemaker, Tyler Cronin, and Kaydence Cronin, Natalie Pollock, Adelyn Pollock, and Emerson Pollock; and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim in 2010; son, Jim Pollock in 1996; and sister, Norma Tandberg.
