Obituary

Dorothy Murphy, age 76, formerly of 1063 Kansas Ave. SE, Huron, died Friday, August 27, 2004, at the Prairie View Care Center at Woonsocket. Her funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM Monday, August 30, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Huron with Father Cathal Gallagher officiating. Burial will be at St. Pauls Cemetery, Iroquois. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the Mass Monday morning at the church. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:30 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home with the family present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Dorothy Murphy was born Dorothy Hazel Bullard on January 12, 1928, to Walter and Esther (Stone) Bullard at Milwaukee, WI. She moved extensively throughout her life, due to the nature of her parents job with the Salvation Army Corp., finally arriving in Huron for her high school years. She graduated from Huron High School in 1946. She then attended Northwest College of Commerce where she obtained her degree in business. Along her travels in life she met and fell in love with Harold F. Murphy and they were married on July 5, 1951, in Huron. Dorothy continued with her business path of life, first working as an operator at Northwestern Bell Telephone, and later taking a position in the Credit Department of Montgomery Wards. Next she worked at the Huron Daily Plainsman, in the Accounts Receivable department, until 1973, when she retired to care for her aging mother. Dorothy enjoyed giving hours of care to her parents, children, and grandchildren. She was a woman of strong faith, and that faith sustained her throughout her life and illness. Dorothy loved to play the piano, sing, laugh, and make people happy. She belonged to the following organizations, which she enjoyed very much, American Legion Auxiliary Chorus, the Heartland Singers of Huron, and Mr. and Mrs. Dance Club. She was also an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Huron Baptist Church until her illness took effect and her life went in a different direction. She spent many years teaching Sunday School, singing, and playing the piano for the church. The Family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation for the loving care that the Prairie View Care Center has shown Dorothy, and us, over the years she has been there. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Harold F. Hack of Huron; two daughters, Mary (Denis) Larson of West Valley City, UT, and Barbara (Robert Ressser) Jorgensen of Wichita, KS; and one sister, Dolores Bullard of Tucson, AZ. Dorothy spent many hours with her 6 grandchildren, Sean and Joshua Christman, Aron Larson, Cory and Ashley Weisser, and Sarah Jorgensen, and they will always cherish those times. There are also the ones she never knew, Peyton and Xander Christman, and Jace Christman, her 3 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and they have now been reunited in Heaven.
