Dorothy Horn McNeill, age 88, of Austin, Minnesota, and formerly of the Bonilla area, died Monday, February 6, 2006, at the Austin Medical Center at Austin, MN. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 PM Friday, February 10, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Britton officiating. Burial will be at Altoona Cemetery, rural Hitchcock. Friends may call this Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday until time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. The family will be present from 7:00 to 8:00 PM this Thursday evening at the funeral home. Dorothy McNeill was born Dorothy Alice Nesfield on August 28, 1917, to Charles and Genieve (Chaplin) Nesfield at Hitchcock, SD. She attended country school in Altoona Township and graduated from high school at Bonilla, SD. She earned her teaching degree at USD at Springfield, SD, and taught school for 42 years at various schools until her retirement to the Black Hills area in 1982. On September 26, 1942, Dorothy married Verlin Horn at Pipestone, MN. To this union 2 sons were born, Douglas of Wolsey, SD, and Rick of Austin, MN. Verlin passed away on November 14, 1986. In 1991, Dorothy married James McNeill, of Howard Lake, MN, in Rapid City. They moved to Austin, MN, spending the winter months in Weslaco, TX. In 2001, James passed away. She continued to winter in Texas until 2005 when her health failed. She is survived by 2 sons, Doug (Mary) Horn of Wolsey, SD, and Rick (Colleen) Horn of Austin, MN; 5 grandchildren, Emily (Alan) Isbell of Oregon, OH, Deanna (Gerald) Parker of Clovis, NM, Lisa Horn of Wolsey, SD, Pat Horn of Austin, MN, and Tim Horn of Austin, MN; 4 great grandchildren, Ashley Witt, Joshua Isbell, Katherine Parker, and Scott Parker; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands, Verlin in 1986, and James in 2001; 1 sister, Lefa Palmer; and 1 brother-in-law, Hugh Palmer.
