Dorothy Lorenz, age 89, of Huron, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Avantara Huron.

Her memorial service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Huron, with burial at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.

Visitation with family present will be from 9:30 AM until the start of the service on Saturday.

Dorothy L. Bisson, the daughter of Earl O. and Harriet (Lilja) Bisson, was born on April 27, 1932 in Britton, SD.  She attended school and graduated from Claremont High School.  She also attended college for a time at Presentation College.

Dorothy married Francis B. Lorenz on November 9, 1951 in Webster, SD.  Dorothy worked as secretary for her husband's insurance business for many years until their retirement.

Dorothy was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Huron where she taught Sunday school and Confirmation classes, and was involved in several women's church groups.  She was also a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary and Beta Sigma Phi.

Dorothy enjoyed cooking and baking and always made sure she made cookies for the family every week.  Dorothy was a take charge kind of person.  She was a hard worker, kept her household in ship shape, and took care of her family when Francis was gone for his job. Dorothy was a loving and caring person and was always willing to give out free hugs. She also cooked for the Boy Scout Camp Staff.  Dorothy and Francis were full time RVers for ten years and saw much of the country.  Dorothy was a fighter and was very proud of the fact that she was a two-time cancer survivor. Her family is grateful for having shared in Dorothy's life.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, David (Jeannie) Lorenz of Huron and Robert (Nancy) Lorenz of Parkston, SD, and  daughter, Joan (Keith) DeShazer of Huron; 7 grandchildren, Stephanie Lorenz, Maggie (Dustin) Stevens, Ashley (Shaun) Sarvis, Zachary (Collette) DeShazer, Bart (Maggie) Lorenz, Bobbi (Kyle) Anderberg, and Logan (Liz Martinmaas) DeShazer; 16 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, JoAnn Lorenz of Aberdeen, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Francis; and son James Lorenz.
