Doris Tillie Heckel, age 84, of 541 Ohio Ave. NW, Huron, died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 21, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Sattgast and Rev. Christopher Ascher officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call this Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday until time of service at the Welter Funeral Home. Doris L. Flesner was born on December 25, 1920, to Frank and Luella (Coddington) Flesner at Orient, SD. She grew up and attended school at Orient. She then worked as a housekeeper for an area family for a period of time. She moved to Pierre where she worked as a bartender at the Silver Spur Bar at Ft. Pierre. On November 28, 1952, Doris married Francis Heckel at Pierre, where the couple made their home. After her husbands death in 1958, Doris worked as a bartender at the Hopscotch Bar at Pierre for several years. She moved to Huron in the early 1960s, and worked at various cafs including the Magness Caf and the Hanger Restaurant. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He interests included playing cards and watching her special programs on television. She is survived by 1 son, Mark (Joyce) Heckel of Huron; 2 granddaughters, Jennie (Leon) Halajian of Watertown, and Betty Heckel of Huron; 1 brother, Gene (Pat) Flesner of Watsonville, CA; 1 sister, Rose Axtell of Duluth, MN; 1 sister-in-law, Clara Myers of Huron; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis on February 25, 1958; and 3 brothers, Earl, Robert, and Jim Flesner.
