Doris Kouf, age 86, of Huron, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 23, at First United Methodist Church with entombment at Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. Doris Kouf was born Doris Marie Hopper, daughter of Oral and Ethel (Renshaw) Hopper, on September 3, 1926, at Huron, SD. She graduated as valedictorian of her class of 1944 at Huron High School. Following her formal education she began working as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell, a position which she held for the next 6 years. On September 22, 1946, Doris married Marshall Kouf in Huron and they made Huron their home since that time. The Jefferson School PTA presented Doris with a life-time membership pin. She was also active in the Jefferson School Cub Scouts for several years. Doris was a very active member of First United Methodist Church, and the UMW (United Methodist Women) and was presented a special membership pin by that organization. She served as the church Circle chairperson and co-chaired other offices for the church and the UMW. She also was a member of the 20th Century Study Club for many years. She is survived by 3 sons, Kevin Kouf of Mitchell, Wade (Janeen) Kouf of Huron, and Kent (Sue) Kouf of Huron; 5 grandchildren, Brandie Bieker, Heather (Jeff) Tuttle, Marshall Wade (Angie) Kouf, Dustin Kouf, and Trent Kouf; 7 great grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Lynn (Darlene) Hopper of Cavour; 2 sisters, Lois (Jim) Coughlin of Omaha, NE, and Shirley (Phil) Hess of Roswell, NM; 1 brother-in-law, Ron Jorgenson of Huron; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marshall on December 3, 2004; 1 great granddaughter, Dacotah Kouf; 1 great grandson, Blade Bieker; 2 sisters, Gladys Hopper, and Beverly Jorgenson; and 1 brother, Lyle Hopper.
