Doris Korkow, age 85, formerly of Cavour and Bancroft, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at the De Smet Good Samaritan Center at De Smet, SD. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 24th at the American Lutheran Church at De Smet with Rev. Randy Koeller officiating. Burial will be at the LeSueur Cemetery at Bancroft. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning. The family will be present Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Doris Korkow was born Doris Baker on September 11, 1920, to Homer and Nanny (Fagrelius) Baker at Bancroft, SD. On June 25, 1938, Doris married Elmer Korkow at Bancroft. They farmed in the Bancroft area until 1950 when they moved to Bancroft and operated the gas station and grocery store. In 1971, they moved to Cavour where she was employed at the Huron Nursing Home as a cook for a number of years. She enjoyed her family, bingo, cards, fishing and camping. In 1996, Doris entered the De Smet Good Samaritan Center. She is survived by 3 sons, Jerry (Marilyn) Korkow of Iroquois, Gene (Nikki) Korkow and Roger (Sharon) Korkow both of Cavour; 1 daughter Arlene (Dennis) Haarstad of Cavour; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Virginia Roberts of California; and 2 sisters-in-law, Marie Hageman of Worthington, MN and Dorothy (Howard) Ackman of Chandler, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer on June 2, 1984, her parents, and 2 sisters, Evelyn (Roscoe) Custard and Alvina. Casket bearers will be J.T. Korkow, Kim Korkow, Tony Haarstad, Tammy Alme, Tricia Holland, Kristi Huizenga, Todd Korkow, Lori Peterson and Shari Blue.
