Doris Gogolin, age 92, of Huron, SD, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Huron SunQuest Healthcare Center. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 13, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.; or Monday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Doris Gogolin was born Doris E. Moller, daughter of Rudolph and Fern (Pierce) Moller, on July 25, 1918, in Burwell, NE. At the age of one, she moved with her family to a farm near Wessington, SD. She graduated from Wessington High School in 1935. On June 22, 1939, Doris married Vernon Arthur Gogolin. They moved to De Smet where they lived for a couple of years; to a farm near Wessington; into town at Wessington, then into town at Wolsey; and finally to Huron in 1956. Vernon died on July 16, 1977. Following the death of her husband she started Grandma Gogolin's Day Care which she operated until 1998. In August of 2002 Doris became a resident of Sunquest Healthcare Center in Huron. She was a past member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, and presently a member of American Lutheran Church. Her interests included gardening, reading, cooking and baking (especially her home-made bread). There was never a stranger at Doris' table and all were welcome. Doris is survived by 8 children, Rebecca (Joe) Oster of Huron, Ron (Kay) Gogolin of Huron, Roger (Vydal) Gogolin of Rapid City, Barbara (Bruce) Smalley of Huron, Patricia (Ray) Iwen of Sioux Falls, Donna (Tom) Thompson of Huron, Bonnie (Bob) Martens of Minnetonka, MN, and Nancy Schwartz of Huron; 30 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Joy (Duane) Shoemaker of Wolsey and Ruth Ann Moller of Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon; 2 children, an infant son, and David Gogolin; a grandson, Russell Iwen; her step-mother, Ann Moller; 2 sisters and their husbands, Beth (Bob) Brunick and Freda (Walt) Quiram.
